Yesterday we explored the Palacio de Monserrate, a palace which was originally built in 1540 as a cathedral dedicated to ‘Our Lady of Monserrate.’ During that time the grounds were owned by the All Saints Hospital, and up until the late 1800s when it was bought by acclaimed novelist WIlliam Beckford, the property was rented to various proprietors. The palace was largely expanded by the Cook Family, who bought the palace several years after Beckford.
